The IT Learning Centre at Sri Ashokaramaya Temple, Galle recently celebrated a significant milestone as Group One students successfully completed their computer training programme. The award ceremony, held at the training centre, marked an important step in empowering young learners with essential digital skills.
This valuable initiative was launched by the Children’s Upliftment Programme (CUP) and sponsored by the Bosath Children’s Educational Foundation, with the aim of bridging digital gaps and creating future-ready youth.
The founder of the Bosath Children’s Educational Foundation, Venerable Gunarathana Thero, joined the ceremony virtually from Los Angeles, USA. Addressing the award recipients, he highlighted the growing importance of computer education in a rapidly advancing digital world. He encouraged students to continue their studies in information technology, noting that digital skills open doors to wider educational and career opportunities globally. Venerable Thero also expressed his willingness to explore future support for students interested in pursuing higher studies in computer science.
The event was attended by Dr. Nadee Dissanayake, Founder and Secretary of CUP, along with Mr. Harsha Gomes (Vice President), Mr. Nishantha Perera (Treasurer), and Mr. Rasika Udugama (Member). They shared CUP’s vision of nurturing confident, skilled, and socially responsible youth through education and community-driven initiatives. Mr. Ravindra, the programme lecturer, coordinated the event and was commended for his dedication and guidance in successfully delivering the training programme.
The completion of this first batch stands as a proud achievement for all stakeholders and reinforces the commitment of CUP and its partners to expanding access to quality digital education for children and youth in Sri Lanka.
