CUP recently extended support to 100 children affected by the Ditwa tragedy, students of Sri Sumedharamaya Sunday School, Kotuvila, Wellampitiya, who suffered the loss and damage of essential educational materials. Despite these challenges, the students demonstrated remarkable resilience and a strong commitment to continuing their education and moral development. In response, the CUP team, together with committed philanthropists, provided essential educational supplies to support the children’s ongoing learning and overall well-being. The initiative aimed to restore stability, strengthen resilience, and reaffirm the vital role of education in the recovery process.
The programme was made possible through the generous contributions of Mr. Sabeer Iqbal, Mr. Prasad Galhena, Mr. Leslie Armstrong, Mr. M. M. Maznavi, Mr. Sampath Liyanage, Mr. Suresh Perera, Mr. M. A. N. Mohamed, Mr. Nimal Korale, Mr. Thaju Sajith, Mr. Ashraff Aziz, Mr. Kapila Suranga, Mr. Nishantha Perera, and Mrs. Dilani Wijethunga.
Representing CUP at the event were Mr. Harsha Gomes (Vice President) and Dr. Nadee Dissanayake (Founder and Secretary). Addressing the gathering, Dr. Dissanayake emphasized the importance of facing challenges with resilience and continuing education at all levels. Mr. R. P. Suriyapperuma and Ms. Sarah Maznavi also participated, gracing the occasion with their presence.
