CUP has launched the Green Champs Project, an engaging initiative designed to empower children with knowledge about the importance of loving and protecting trees. This pilot program involved fifty children from the Lelwala, Neluwa, and Galle regions, providing them with plants, grow bags, and fertilizers, along with hands-on gardening training.
Over the next three months, the young participants, known as Green Champs, will cultivate their plants and submit weekly activity reports to assess their progress and learning outcomes. Alongside their gardening efforts, the children can also participate in a "Best Photo of the Tree" competition, showcasing both their photography talents and their commitment to caring for their plants.
Sponsored by Regal Image International Pvt Limited, the project featured insights from Compliance Manager Mr. Srimal Botheju, who discussed the challenges and rewards of tree planting. Additionally, Richard Trading Company Pvt Limited supported the initiative by donating school supplies to each child, further aiding their educational journey.
The CUP Green Champs Team—comprising Mr. Harsha Gomes, Dr. Nadee Dissanayake, Mr. Nishantha Perera, Mr. Theja De Silva, and Mr. Leslie Armstrong—actively engaged in the event, creating a memorable experience for all participants.
Special thanks are extended to Mr. Sunil Shantha and Mr. Aruna Shantha for their outstanding coordination of this impactful event. The Green Champs project aspires not only to educate but also to instill a sense of environmental responsibility in the next generation.
