The Green Champ environmental education programme marked another meaningful milestone with a follow-up visit conducted on 28 December 2024 in Neluwa. A team of CUP officials, Harsha Gomes, Dr. Nadee Dissanayake, Nishantha Perera, Sunil Shantha, and Aruna Shantha, visited the home gardens of participating children to observe the progress of the chilli plants distributed three months earlier.

The Green Champ programme reached the urban community of Randiya Uyana, Henamulla, Colombo 15 on 30 November 2024, bringing the message of environmental care to 100 enthusiastic children. The initiative aimed to encourage tree planting, nurture respect for nature, and build a generation of young eco-stewards within densely populated settlement areas.

We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of "Mr. Ginger," the eighth storybook from the Child Writer Project, held recently at Muslim Ladies College, Colombo 4. This innovative initiative brought together the creative talents of grade nine students, empowering them to become authors, artists, and imaginative thinkers.

CUP has launched the Green Champs Project, an engaging initiative designed to empower children with knowledge about the importance of loving and protecting trees. This pilot program involved fifty children from the Lelwala, Neluwa, and Galle regions, providing them with plants, grow bags, and fertilizers, along with hands-on gardening training.

The Green Champ – All-Island Art Competition held on 10 October 2024 successfully brought together young artists from across Sri Lanka for a vibrant online celebration of creativity and environmental awareness. Sponsored by Richard Pvt Ltd, the initiative encouraged children to express their love for nature through art highlighting how plants, trees, and the environment shape their daily lives.

In a heartwarming initiative to celebrate World Children’s Day, Professor Neluka Silva, Senior Professor of English at the University of Colombo, teamed up with Ms. Victoria Challacombe to donate a collection of storybooks to the beneficiaries of CUP Little Libraries.

On 22 August 2024, CUP officially initiated the Green Champ project, a new sub-initiative under the CUP Education category aimed at nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious children. The project encourages young participants to learn about trees, planting, and environmental protection, helping them grow into responsible young eco-leaders.

The Children’s Upliftment Programme (CUP) has expanded its reach with the establishment of its 45th little library at Ambepussa, Neeththagama Sri Shilathalaramaya Viharaya. This initiative, supported by the Bosath Children’s Educational Foundation, aims to foster a love of reading among the Sunday school students of the viharaya.

In a heartwarming event aimed at fostering education and literacy, CUP, with the support of Richard Trading PVT Ltd, distributed books and educational materials to the students of Batuwandara Junior School in Piliyandala. The event saw the participation of more than 100 enthusiastic students, who showcased their talents through various performances, adding a vibrant touch to the occasion.

The award ceremony of the Computer Beginners’ Course, first group, at Sri Shailathalaramaya Purana Viharaya, Thennagama Abepussa, was held on March 23, 2024. The project is sponsored by Bosath Children’s Educational Foundation.
