The number of Children who become visually impaired as a result of brain disorders at birth, is being rapidly increasing now a days. Although there is a considerable scarcity of Doctors, Therapists and Nursing staff who are well trained and specialized in providing treatment, therapies along with the special care and the attention that these kind of Children are in need of.
Children’s Upliftment Programme (CUP) recognizing the necessity, has conducted a one day awareness progamme for Doctors, Therapists and Nursing Staff at the Auditorium of Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children . Dr. D Irugalbandara, Dr. Ms.Samanmali Sumanasekara, Dr.Dinesh Wijesekara, Dr.Ravindra Kelanithilaka & Dr. Ms.Pyara Rathnayake contributed with their valuable lectures and presence, making the event more attractive and interesting. Ms.Ashoka Elvitigala and Ms.Samadhi Kaluarachchi actively joined the event representing the Therapists.
The event was organized by Sri Lanka Association for Child Development (SLACD) with the exclusive sponsorship by CUP. President of CUP Mr.PrasadGalhena, Vice President-Mr.Harsha Gomes, Secretary Ms.Nadee Dissanayake, Vice Secretary-Ms.Damayanthi Perera, Treasurer-Mr.Nishantha Perera and members Ms.Thumiri Dissanayake and Mr. L Velu joined the event whilst Mr.Sabeer Iqbal and Mr Indika Perera offered their kind corporation to make the event successful.
President of CUP Mr.Prasad Galhena addressing the gathering convinced that the CUP is eagerly waiting to organize more awareness programs on this matter and to set up at least one therapy unit in each teaching hospital.
