The Children's Upliftment Program (CUP) successfully conducted a two day workshop on Library Science in Pelmadulla, with the intention of developing a deeper knowledge and understanding of Library Science among the younger generations.
The work shop was attended by youth who are resident at the Mithuru Mithuro Rehabilitation Center in Pelmadulla. The objective of this workshop was to encourage and expose young minds to the world of reading buy enhancing their reading skills. In addition to encouraging reading books the workshop focused on educating youth in the field of library science. Library science is the field of study that teaches how to manage books and other information, particularly through collecting, preserving, categorization, and organizing books and other materials in libraries.
The resources for the workshop was provided by senior officials Mr M Aravinda and Mr C Senevirathna from the National Library of Sri Lanka. This event was made possible with the generous sponsorship of the Rotary club of Colombo East. A donation of three book racks was also made to the existing library. Members and officials from the CUP, Harsha Gomes – Vice President, Nadee Dissanayake – Secretary, Nishantha Perera – Treasurer and Damayanthi Perera – Assistant Secretary were also present at this wonderful occasion.
