Two children of Sgt. I.P.M. Wijewardene, a member of the Sri Lanka Army, who lost his life in the battle front at Elephant Pass on 07th January 2009 were offered two scholarships by the CUP organization.The children who received these scholarships were I.P. Pasindu Wijewardena, Primary school of Algama, Medagama and I.P Heshika Wijewardena, “Samanala Pre-School”, Algama.

The donation was made by Mr. Manula Piyadigama. The certificates and the first donation was handed over to the children by Mr. and Mrs S. Wanasinghe on behalf of Mr. Piyadigama, on 28th February 2009. Officials of the CUP organization, Mr. H.Gomes and Mrs. N.T.A.Disssanayake were also present at this event
