A group of students got together to help CUP ‘Little Library Project’. They are Kavindya Allahakkoon, Golda Perera and Dulanjalee of Royal Institute Colombo, Shehan Rodrigo and Sheron Rodrigo of St. Joseph’s College Colombo and Amritha Allahakkoon from Colombo International School.
Realising the value of helping their peers who are not privileged as they are, these students were looking for a way to lend a helping hand.
The students knew that reading can make a change in a person’s life and therefore ‘CUP Little Library Project’ was the right path for them to fulfill their desire to help the needy.
They started off their campaign on collecting used books right away and were able to collect about 200 Sinhala and English books from friends and relatives.
“We are overjoyed with the outcome and hope to collect more with the support of children all around” talking about the campaign Amritha said.
“CUP Little Library concept is unique and creative. It’s a home for children, which helps to gather and share knowledge while performing their creative skills. It’s like a small school where children could borrow books as they wish and learn good practices such as team work, organizing, taking responsibility and punctuality. It gave us a great insight. We will continue to help CUP”, she further added.
Amritha Allahakkoon handed over the first collection to Harsha Gomes, Vice President on 26th February 2012.
