The 30th Little Library of CUP was opened at the Community Centre in Aushadhapitiya, Vavuniyawa. About 400 children in the village and around will be the beneficiaries of this library.
In accordance with the new concept of CUP, The theme associated with this library was ‘Child Protection’ - A timely topic as many children are abused sexually and by drugs, hence it is important to make children aware of how to protect themselves and also their rights and responsibilities.
An art competition was held to enable students to display their views and ideas of what child abuse meant to them. The best drawings were selected and the winners were awarded.
An awareness programme through a video presentation was held and posters were also distributed with the intention of educating the children and thereby reducing the abuse rate to some extent.
The Divisional Secretary Mr.S.M. Janaka, Child Development Officer Mr. Nissanka Jayarathna, the Principle, Pre School Mrs. H.Hemalatha and CUP Officials, Harsha Gomes, Nadee Dissanayake, Nishantha Perera, Dilhara Karunanayake and Damayanthi Perera were present at this event.
This project was sponsored by Mr.S.A.Dissanayake who has been contributing to CUP in many ways from its inception.
