CUP has ventured into the concept of Little Library with the intention of providing more opportunities to children in reading and developing the creative skills. Up to now eight such Little Libraries have been established by CUP, six in the District of Colombo and one each in Kalutara and Gampaha.
These libraries are getting well stocked with generous donations made by local donors. As an expression of his utmost regard for the concept of Little Library, Mr.L.Abeysinghe made a handsome donation of thirty English-Sinhala dictionaries on 17th October 2010 at the CUP’s Office.
The concept of "Singithi Pothgula" - Little Library was introduced by CUP, in order to improve the reading habits and the creative writing among children. The 7th Little Library project embarked upon by CUP was established at Sri Sudarmarama Darmaraja Temple at Dehiwala. The children of Gamini Matha Lama Samajaya will become the reader members who would immensely benefit from this little library.
Commemorating World Children’s Day, the Sisu Diriya scholarship scheme of CUP has found a benefactor to assist little Rashmika from Kelaniya. Rashmika will receive a monthly allowance from Mr. Harsha Gomes for educational purpose.
CUP was able to establish an IT Centre for children at Sri Devadhara Sunday School Pannipitiya on 26th September 2010, facilitated by a generous donation of four computers by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Sri Lanka.
This will be an IT Centre for the children of the area irrespective of their ethnicity. The administration of this centre will be by the CUP Association. Hand books containing instructions on computer usage were given free of charge to students .Two volunteers from the area has been vested with the responsibility of teaching IT to children.
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) has donated four computers to the Children’s Upliftment Programme (CUP Association) on 21.09.2010. An IT Centre will be established at Sri Devadara Sunday School, Depanama, Pannipitiya with this gift of four computers. This will be an IT Centre for the children of the area. The administration of this centre will be by the CUP Association. The centre will commence on 26.09.2010.
Commemorating World Children’s Day aunty Rani has sponsored two children, Vishal and Janitha in their studies.
Vishal is a student at the School for Deaf, Rathmalana, studies in grade five. He has many achievements in sports. Also he perform very well in the field of English.Vishal , his grand mother and the elder sister met aunty Rani and the CUP officials at MacDonalds, Kollupitiya to hand over the Sisu Diriya certificate.
Heshika and her mother visit uncle Manula and his family at their residence in Kirulapone on 24th August 2010. An assessment made on this visit regarding Heshika’s school work won her accolades and a number of gifts.
Sandil Methmin Munasinghe, studies at Royal institute, Nugegoda in Grade 4-C became one of the youngest Sisu Diriya Scholarship donors when he came forward to help little Amali Imasha. Amali is a grade 3 student at Holy family Convent, Dehiwala who has shown a lot of talent for dancing as well as drawing.
Yasanga Peries has benefited under Sisu Diriya Scholarship scheme. The donor of Yasanga is Mr. Harsha Gomes. The certificate and the first donation were given to Yasanga on 24th August 2010 at CUP Office. Yasanga is presently studying at Sumaga Pre-school, Rajagiriya. She has shown lot of talents for drawing.
