The annual eye camp organized by CUP was held at Honnathara temple, Piliyandala this year. 100 children of the Sunday school were examined on the 16th of August 2009. At this camp and spectacles were donated to 20 selected children on the 27th of September 2009.
Yenuri de Silva who studies in grade two at Sussex College, Nugegoda became one of the youngest Sisu Diriya Scholarship donors when she came forward to help little Tamudi Gimhani. Tamudi is a grade 5 student at Somaweera Chandrasiri Vidyalaya, Piliyandala who has shown a lot of talent for dancing.
Forty students of Somaweera Chandrasiri Vidyalaya, Piliyandala were given gift packs by Mr.Manula Piyadigama on his birthday, 31st August 2009. The students were selected on the basis of their marks of the last term test.
The concept of "Singithi Pothgula" - Little Library was introduced by CUP, in order to improve the reading habits among children. This is the 5th Little Library project embarked by CUP.
Little Dilendra, has volunteered to sponsor Sathsara Perera of Mahanama College, Colombo 03 for his studies. The first instalment of this donation was handed over at CUP Office on the 1st of August by Dilendra Gunatilaka,.Sathsar's mother and Dilendra's father were present on the occasion.
Daham de Siva has benefitted under Sisu Diriya Scholarship scheme. The donor of Daham is Mr. L. Abeysinghe. The certificate and the first donation were given to Daham by Mr. Abeysinghe on 20th June 2009 at CUP Office.
The Childrens Upliftment Program (CUP) was able to donate sports items to the children of Vijaya Vidyalaya, Karagampitiya, Dehiwala, on 18th June 2009 at the request of the Divisional Secretariat- Dehiwala. The items are appended below:-
Children's Upliftment Programme (CUP) was able to organize a "Poson Dansela" with the children of Little Library of Nambapana, Ingiriya on 07th June 2009. This was an event design to motivate children towards a better future with a positive mind. A large gathering was the beneficiaries of the hospitality of the children.
A periodic appraisal conducted by CUP Officials at Nambapana Little Library on 7th June 2009. The children's contribution towards the library was assessed, and the children were able to discuss their problems in the library with CUP Officials.CUP donated 60 story books to the library.
Devmini and her parents visit Chandima and her family in their residence at Attidiya, Dehiwala, on 31st May 2009.Ms. Devmini Serasinghe, has come to sponsor Chandima of Dihiwala for her studies on the 23rd of August 2008. Chandima has performed extremely well in her studies and she was able to score more marks in the last term test,(march 2009) held at the school.CUP officials Mr. Harsha Gomes and Mrs.N.T.A.Dissanayake participated for the occasion.
